Formerly known as Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Saginaw is a small city is situated in the Tarrant County, State of Texas, United States. Saginaw is an inner suburb of Fort Worth which is of commercial and residential significance along Highway 496, Northwest of Fort Worth.

Saginaw was predominantly an agricultural community that had settlers before the civil war. It was called Dido, and some roads still bear the name till today. One of the significant features of Dido was the three railroads that passed through it in the 1880s namely; the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway (a subsidiary of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad), the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway and the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway.

Dido had its named changed to Saginaw in 1882 as the community experienced growth. The name Saginaw was the second choice after the first choice of name Pontiac was rejected by the United Postal Service. Saginaw is from Ojibwe language which means ‘to flow out’ and also shares the name with a river in the city of Michigan.

The first post office opened in Saginaw in 1888, and the community school had a total thirty students registered in 1896. By 1906, the enrollment of student increased slightly to forty-three with two teachers in the school. Saginaw had 103 residents in the year 1926, which was the earliest population record available for the area.

The area had eleven businesses which include the Burrus Mill and Elevator Company and the Globe Aircraft Company operating in the community in 1936. Burrus grain elevator situated in Saginaw then was the second largest in the entire nation and the largest in Texas. Lee O’Daniel who later became the governor of Texas and Senator of the United States was the first manager of Burrus.

Over the next 20 years, Saginaw transformed into the residential suburb of Fort Worth, and with a population of 561 in the late 1950s, it was incorporated to become a city. The people of Saginaw has steadily grown over the years alongside businesses present in the town.

Saginaw has four high schools all served by Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District. The high schools are Saginaw High School, Boswell High School, Chisholm Trail High School, and Watson High School/Alternative Discipline Center (a special school for at-risk students).

There are no colleges or universities present in Saginaw, but the proximity of Fort Worth which is in close distances to Saginaw makes an advantage for the small city. Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area has many colleges and universities that serve the city.

The highest employer in Saginaw is Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD with a total of 2,131 employees. Other top employer includes Wal-Mart, Trinity N. Amer. Freight Car Inc, Bana Box Inc, Ventura Foods, CTI Chefco Foods, Russo Corporation, Ranger Fire, DOS Project – Standard Meat and Texas Army National Guard.
